Police called to ‘keep the peace’ in CFMEU showdown

Police have been forced to deal with a stand-off between a crowd of CFMEU representatives and security guards at a Queensland government project that allegedly involved unionists jumping fences to get on to the site.

The incident comes on the same day that Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke gave his full backing to the industry regulator, the Fair Work Ombudsman, despite the watchdog failing to launch a single case against the CFMEU and dropping claims in 30 per cent of cases inherited from the Australian Building and Construction Commission.
