Accountant Paul Meissner set up Five Ways chartered accountants as a virtual business. Here are his tips for how the industry can better use social media.

Twitter is a conversation, not a vehicle to transmit sales copy (or your newsletter).

Listen (use watch lists) to what people need and help them, don’t just sell them.

If your clients use social media, why don’t you? Ask them if they prefer to communicate in other forms.

Post answers on business forums. Clients out there need advice and are asking questions. Help them and they will help you.

Social media reflects your culture. If you are having fun, why not share it with everyone?

Write and share a blog post. Share some knowledge and people will ask you questions. Questions often lead to new work.
