If you were PM for the day, what would be the first thing you’d do?
Introduce philosophy to the primary school curriculum. No education is more powerful than teaching our children how to think independently and critically.
How do you improve your own skills?
By finding the gaps and making them strengths, whatever it takes.
How has your industry changed in the past five years?
Online shopping is a mega-trend that is irreversibly changing the retail industry. Australians expect choice and convenience when they shop and they find it online. There is still a role for bricks and mortar stores but the nature of this role remains to be seen. We haven’t seen true innovation by offline retailers or a standout in that category but we want to be sure Australian retailers win the fast-growing online space.
What is the best deal you have ever done?
We did a great radio deal this year to test the effectiveness of the channel and found it a very effective way to talk to Australian shoppers.
Who is the person you’d most like to sit next to on a long-haul flight?
Woody Allen, so he can describe the subtext of his films while I watch them.
Where do you do your best thinking?
In the shower . . . something about flowing water.
