Must-have tools for entrepreneurs

Turn any wall into a whiteboard with IdeaPaint.

Entrepreneurs need to be flexible, organised and cost-conscious to succeed. Luckily, there’s a wide array of tools on the market that can help start-ups be all of these things.

Technology and social media website Mashable has pulled together a list of some of the hottest must-haves for entrepreneurs, ranging from gadgets through to paint (yes, paint). Here’s a taste:

  • Evernote: A virtual to-do list, Evernote lets people save anything from notes to photos, webpages, audio files and more in a single place in the cloud. The archive users create is searchable and accessible on desktops through a browser and mobile devices through an app. Annotations and comments can be added to items stored in the archive and exported.
  • MailChimp: MailChimp is an email platform that will let you send up to 12,000 emails per month to a list of fewer than 2000 subscribers before it asks you to start paying. Of course, if you stump up some cash you get access to a broader range of features, such as tools that allow users to layer their mailing list with social media data, giving them a greater chance of hitting influencers with targeted email campaigns.
  • Paper: Handwriting is good for your brain. True story. So consider using the Paper iPad app to scribble out ideas virtually.
  • Google Docs: Ok, no surprises here. Google Docs has been around for a while and, apart from being cost effective and accessible from any web-enabled device, it offers built-in chat and real-time editing features that aid collaboration. Companies of all sizes, including BRW publisher Fairfax Media, are embracing this suite.
  • IdeaPaint: A whiteboard without the board. Simply splash IdeaPaint on your preferred surface and you have an instant dry erase wall. A transparent option is available so it’s not necessary to compromise on interior decoration and its more cost effective than traditional whiteboards.
