South African-born Kerr Neilson is co-founder and majority shareholder of fund manager Platinum Asset Management, known for its focus on international equities. The flagship Platinum International Fund has provided investors with an average 13.4 per cent annual return since 1995. Neilson refused to take a bonus after poor investment performances in 2011 and 2012. Platinum’s share price has risen by 48 per cent since last year, increasing the value of Neilson’s stake by about $780 million. Platinum’s funds under management increased by a strong 33.6 per cent to $23.687 billion in the year to February 2014.
