The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has probably made its last request for information from Virgin Australia before ruling on its proposed takeover of Tiger Australia, says ACCC chairman Rod Sims.

Sims says the decision on whether or not to approve Virgin’s proposal to buy 60 per cent of loss-making Tiger airlines is “not far away”.

He says that as part of the review of the proposed merger, both airlines must put forward views on what they would do should the deal not materialise.

Sims would not give any indication as to which way the commission is planning to rule.

Last Friday, the ACCC requested more information from Virgin and said it would push back the deadline to deliver its ruling which was originally scheduled for March 14.
